What are the 3 types of personality disorders?

The three types of personality disorders are:

  • Anxious disorders are characterized by an irrational fear of certain situations that ordinary people consider to be normal. The anxious disorders include obsessive compulsive, avoidant, and dependent personality disorder.

  • The emotional and impulsive disorders are characterized by dramatic and erratic behaviors. Such people struggle to start and maintain relationships. The emotional and impulsive disorders include borderline, narcissistic, and histrionic personality disorder.

  • The suspicious disorders are characterized by the inability to trust others and the conviction that people around the patient are planning to hurt them. The paranoia makes them refuse to forge deep relationships with others. Suspicious disorders include paranoid, antisocial, schizoid, and schizotypal personality disorders.

Each disorder has a unique diagnostic criterion. However, it is possible for people with different personalities and individual experiences to be diagnosed with the same disorder. This is because each person has unique experiences of personality disorders.
