What is transition anxiety?

Transitional anxiety is the feeling of unease that people have when they experience a profound change in their life. The anxiety creates fear, tension, and procrastination, among other negative emotions. Some people respond to anxiety by adopting coping behaviors such as substance abuse or trying new hobbies. Transition anxiety is especially high among highly sensitive persons (HSPs). Such people have difficulties adjusting to change and may harbor so much anxiety that it may stagnate their life.

Both positive and negative transitions have the potential to cause anxiety. It is the reaction that determines if a person will experience anxiety. The key to reducing anxiety is identifying negative thought patterns and suppressing them. Positive thinking, giving yourself a chance, and focusing on the positive aspects of the change helps reduce anxiety.
